Sketch Challenge #9 / Scrap Fit Workout #84

Fun Fun in the Sand

A LO for two Challenge Entries.  The first is Sketch Challeng #9 on Scrapfriends

I've actually turned the sketch on it's side and used the elements to look like the sea is coming in.

I was inspired in using the sketch this way when using the colours from Scrap Fit Workout #84

In this challenge it did say
"Diana our Creative Trainer has created the most calming color combo for you!  To get the best results you may want to listen to the sounds of waves on the beach and light a lavender candle while your creating your layout.   Lets see your calming creativity!"

It was lovely to do a LO with a summer theme - dreaming of days at the beach.

CSI Case File #56

You Give a Little Love ...

Colours - Pale sort of Greyish-Teal, Cherry Red, Black, White and Gray

Me a little paired back - at last! Loved the colours and knew how I wanted this photo to stand out so have only used small amounts of the colours. It's Lily again in another show - Bugsy Malone - if you know the show or the film I'm sure you're singing that song in your head now and you won't get rid of it. Lily was one of Dandy Dan's gan with a splurge gun - that actually fired silly string. Here she is mid-song and dance routine. The photo has a special effect on it which a friend did to only highlight Lily in colour.

To solve the case I did use all the colours - hardest to find was the pale sort of greyish-teal. The Grey card with hearts on was a gem of a find as it's the packaging to some embellishments I had - I don't throw things like that away!

For evidence I used thread to stitch the buttons together and then hung them from below the card - meant I have my signature buttons here too, I've used something translucent - velum - there's plain cardstock background and I've used doodle dashed lines to highlight the title but it's also moving you along the song words.

My Testimony is in the velum pocket which has the song words typed on it - I've included a sheet of the song words in there too and a tag with a string that has some memories of the show that Lily and I have jotted down - like she remembers the dance routine and all the fun that the cast had.

Also based loosely on a sketch by Emma Stafrace.

Sketch with Color - Jan 1 Challenge 1

Aqua Splash

A fabulous combination of colours with a sketch too and you had to make a homemade banner - one of my favorite things to make.

A picture of Lily when we went to Turkey which matched the colours of the challenge so well.

This was the sketch

and these were the colours.

My home made banner and flags made using a Paper Hat from a Christmas Cracker in  gorgeous Turquoise.

Loved all the layers and I got to use some of my favourite papers.
However the spotty paper is the backing card from some tags a friend gave me for Christmas.  I haven't used the tags yet but the Card in the packet has served it's purpose and is now part of this LO.  I don't waste even the packaging when it comes to finding scraps or stash for my LO's!

Shady Nook & Happiness Bookmarks

It was a real challenge for me with these colours and couldn't find any inspiration for a card so when I found the sticker in the right shade and the rub-on in the same I knew they belonged on bookmarks so I got my paints out!

I painted both bookmarks, in slightly different ways, with the right shades and allowed to dry.  I have then rubbed them down and given them a bit of a distressed look.

The stickers complete the look but trying to get a decent photograph has proved tricky.  I will try and get some done in daylight and add them to this post.

ColourQ#172

Birthday Card

The colours this week for The Colour Q Challenge were really challenging for a LO so I opted for a card instead!

Colours - Melon Mambo, Summer Starfruit, Basic Grey, Poppy Parade + White

I used papers from a magazine free give away (I don't remember which) for the background of the Starfruit and the Melon with Polka Dots. The Grey is the ribbon and although my photo is appalling in this light I'm sure you can distinguish between the Melon and the Poppy colours on the parcels topper.

The Card is for someone special this week so hope she doesn't click on the blog until after Friday!

CSI Case File #55

My Girl

Colours - Light Sky Blue, Brown, Pale Yellow, Chartreuse, Pale Blue

Oh Scraplifting for this Challenge - YES!

An explaination of why I chose to Scraplift this File - Everytime I go through the Framed (Gallery) on CSI I click in the wrong direction and see Shaunery's Case #1 Chaos and I love the look of it so I knew exactly which case I was going to have a go at. I hope you like it Shaunery?  If you click on CSI below you can find the LO in the Gallery.

I have used a lot of the co-ordinates again for this LO which were absolutely beautiful as always - so inspired by these - so I have used all the colours and the photo again matches the colour scheme.

For the Evidence I have used flowers, leaves, diamond shapes, circles, stitching and faux stitching.

For the Testimony I wrote 6 interesting things about my topic - My Girl - Lily. If you've seen my Star Witness LO from CSI you will know that Lily didn't have the best start in life so from that time we were told many things that she might not be able to do as she grew up so I've written 6 things "What I Thought You Wouldn't Do -
1. You walk, run, jump & dance
2. You talk - sometimes too much
3. You went to mainstream school
4. You deal with your own medication
5. You care and look after others
6. You drive me insane - just like any other little girl would have!

CSI Case #54 - Dad & Nan

Tea Party?

Colours - Light Buttery Yellow, Bright Red, Black, Tan, Bright Sky Blue

Another LO for Case File #54

As I had so many bits and pieces left over from doing my first #54 Case File I thought I would do another using a very old picture of my Dad with his Mum (my Nan) who is no longer with us and her husband (2nd). My dads family are all BIG fans of Tea so it's no surprise there are tea cups there on the table. My Nan lived in Cornwall so we had our summer holidays there every year. (I've also now got a holiday home down there as the rest of the family still live there - aunt, uncle, cousins extended family etc) When we visited we always had Tea and Cake so this is what my journaling tells you about - it will ring true with my cousins as we mentioned it at a family party not long ago.

So to solve the case - I used all the colours in a different way to my first #54 as well. For the Evidence I used a lot of the co-ordinates which are so fabulous - there are punched circles, tickets, music pattern, teacup accent and blue string.

For the Testimony - I collaged some words together from the co-ordinates for Tea and Cake and also Handwrote it. It says " Tea and Cake at Nan's House. There was always tea & always cake. Fruit cake. But Nan could slice it so thinly that it was see-through & you were lucky if there was any fruit in it! Thank goodness for the Tea. "

I have also based my design on Em's wonderful sketch and I loved doing the layers and the banner.

Also I've co-ordinated the colours in the photo with the colour scheme Browns and Blues - I always seem to do this!

Twisted Tuesday Challenge 40

Hugs & Kisses

A New Challenge so a New Card.  A Valentines Card (I know getting in early!)

I've used a Hugs & Kisses Stamp on plain white card stock with a small square of card stock on top.  The twist is the crumpled piece of punched paper behind the square - found in the bottom of my ribbons drawer very crumpled.

This was the Twisted Tuesday Challenge this week

THE CHALLENGE

Somewhere on your creation you need to "off stamp". You know like a flower stamped off to the side of your card stock and only seeing part of it on your creation?!

THE TWIST

THE TWIST ~ the "Beaten" part of our challenge....crumple up something, I'm not talking distressed edges, I'm talking about something really crumpled and/or even torn. I love those crumpled and inked flowers I've been seeing lately. Just beat it up whatever you chose to crumple.

I hope you like it!

CSI Under Surveillance Star Witness

Wow Wow - Double Wow!

Just collected another badge from CSI - Color Stories Inspiration

This is what I found when I clicked onto the site this morning

Tell Your Story. It's our tagline, and here at CSI, it's one of our missions to get our members to delve deeper into journaling--to document the meaningful bits and pieces that make up our lives. We would like to shine a special spotlight each week on a member who did an exceptional job telling their story.
We were all very touched by Sarah's story. No parent should ever have to live through the fear of losing a child. We were so relieved to know that precious Lily made it through such a difficult beginning and is now thriving as a 19-year-old. Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your important and heart-touching story and for reminding us of how fragile and precious life is.

Thanks everyone - I was a bit speechless but really pleased that you liked the LO and that the journaling was something I really had wanted to work on to recall the memories - I feel this is a happy story so please don't be too upset about it.

My take on the Colours and Sketch

Here's the inspiration

Picture

and the Sketch

Picture

and some close up pictures

My daughter was being quite cheeky in the picture and the layout is really pared back and basic.  I stitched the charms on and layered the colours to keep them together.

ColourQ #171

Are We There Yet

Another ColourQ Challenge completed and uploaded just in time!

Colours - Daffodil Delight, Night of Navy, Basic Gray, Kraft + White

For such masculine colours it was another LO of my son.  Who will be 23 tomorrow - so Happy Birthday!

The base layer is from a collection in my stash - this one was called Barnwood Navy Blue and it has a fabulous smudge of Kraft Brown on it which I tried not to cover up with the photo and all around the edges.

The splashes of yellow, gray and some more kraft (although the light has changed the shade of it somewhat!) I based on the inspiration picture from ColourQ to look like the stripes on the hoodie.

Here is the inspiration picture from ColourQ

Here are some close up pictures

I added cars as this photo is taken from the front seat of the car looking back at a slightly bored son on a car journey - that's why it's entitled "Are We There Yet"
The line down the centre of the plaid paper reminded me of the centre of the road!

I added the square metal frames as a contrast to the rest of the LO but I like how they fit with the boxes kind of theme.  I'm also colour co-ordinating my son's T-shirt as it is Kraft & Navy too!

Case File #54

Shake Ripple & Roll

Colours - Light Buttery Yellow, Bright Red, Black, Tan, Bright Sky Blue

Gorgeous Colours and a Sketch too from Em - love page drafts sketches.

To solve the case file using these colours I thought it needed some bright and bubbly photos - these are of my daughter several years ago now getting ready for a performance with the Amateur Dramatics Society we use to belong to. She absolutely loved being part of the cast and as you can see from the photos was having a good time in all of it.

So I used all the colours in the scheme and for the evidence used punched circles, polka dots (my daughter loves them) and I used string for the ticket banner. I've also doodled on an old torn ticket stub in the top rh corner - phrases to go with the photo?!? Handwritten journaling too!

I based my design on the sketch and used the co-ordinates for those tickets as the banner that go well with the subject of my LO.

For the Testimony my journaling is in the form of a ticket - it did say to use my imagination and so I've recycled an old tag that matched the colours which you can see below the photo that slides out.

Here are some close up images

It is a ticket one side for both nights of the performances and a programme the other side.
